About the First Year Associate Experience First Year Associates at Mintz are hired into one of the firm’s offices and immersed into a practice area. First Year Associates are given formal mentors that can serve as a resource during their transition to the firm. It’s not long before First Year Associates know our lawyers, understand what we do, and are ready to hit the ground running after law school. Collaboration with team members is an important component of this role. This role requires 60% in-office presence; remote work is permissible 40% of the time. About the Intellectual Property Litigation Section We provide our clients with the full range of IP expertise and services in today's global technology marketplace, with an emphasis on patent litigation. - Compose patent applications comprising a comprehensive background of the field of an invention, a description of critical features and components of the invention and a set of claims clearly and distinctly defining the invention
- Draft responses to rejection of a patent application for an invention from the USPTO and other worldwide patent offices, providing detailed analysis of the scientific or patent references cited in the rejection, assessing the difference between the invention and the citations and presenting convincing arguments and reasoning why the patent application is to be allowed as a patent
- Conduct clearance studies to clear clients’ products with respect to competitor patents
- Present ideas, reasoning, and conclusions in a concise way to colleagues and provide insightful feedback and arguments to colleagues on their ideas
- Work with clients on innovative and cutting-edge technologies to procure patent protection and build IP portfolios

About the Tax Section Mintz provides sophisticated international, federal, state and local tax advice to advance our clients’ interests in an environment of complex and rapidly changing tax laws. The tax team has a broad transactional tax practice with a focus on advising investment funds, as well as their portfolio companies, in a wide range of domestic and cross-border activities, including M&A and fund formation. Our lawyers advise clients on their transactional planning, tailoring structures to meet business and financial goals. We also represent investors in, and developers of, renewable energy projects, which involves both complex tax structuring and ensuring eligibility for federal and state tax incentives. Responsibilities Mintz is seeking an associate with 3+ years of transactional tax experience to join our team in New York. Responsibilities will include working and advising clients on M&A transactions, debt and other financing transactions, and portfolio investments; designing and implementing tax-efficient structures for joint ventures and a wide range of corporate transactions; and providing clients with state tax planning advice. In addition, you will have opportunities to write and publish alerts and articles addressing tax law changes and current developments. - Must be admitted or eligible for admission in New York
- At least three years of transactional tax experience, with a focus on corporate and partnership taxation in a law firm environment
- Previous accounting firm and/or clean energy experience is a plus
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
